FRAME WORK

The objective of the Rules and Regulation of the Carrera Habagat Adventure Race is to set the framework for a competitive race conducted under a safe, fair, and sportsmanlike manner. Ecological awareness and sensitivity to the local culture is also emphasized.

It should also be noted that it is impossible to make rules for all eventuality and that there will be specific verbal rules attached to certain stages of the race. It is the responsibility of the teams to take notes of theses specific rules.

  1. ORGANIZATION
    1.1

    The "CARRERA HABAGAT" Adventure Race is organized by Habagat Outdoor Equipment and Services, Inc.

    1.2

    The organization is a firm advocate of environmental awareness and protection as well as respect for people and local cultures and may eliminate any team who deviates from these values.

    1.3

    The organization has complete discretion in formulating and applying rules and penalties. The organization reserves the right to impose penalties for conduct in violation of the rules and/or contrary to the best interest of the race.

    1.4

    The "CARRERA HABAGAT" limits the number of participants/teams for the race. The organization reserves the right to accept or deny entry of any competitor/teams.

    1.5

    The registration fee is set at twelve thousand pesos (P 12,000.00) for local teams, three hundred dollars ($300.00) for foreign teams, seventeen thousand pesos (P 17,000.00) for groups with corporate sponsors.

    1.6

    Registration fee is non-refundable and inclusive of:

    • The general organization of the race
    • Organization of the field
    • Installation of safety measures
    • Equipment for certain discipline
    • Race kit which includes: Race Passport, Race Map/s, Race Book, Event Logo Patches, Team Number Patches, Souvenir Shirts, Four Official Equipment.
    • Prizes
    • Media Coverage
    • Hosted dinner during the awards and closing ceremonies.
    1.7

    Registration constitutes full acceptance of the organization’s Rules and Regulations.

    1.8

    For foreign teams: It is the sole responsibility of the teams to know and comply with all the rules of the host country, including obtaining appropriate visas. The organization will not be held responsible or liable for any actions undertaken by any competitor that may violate the rules of the Republic of the Philippines.

    1.9

    The competitor and their close relations declare having fully accepted the risk of this type of competition and agree not to pursue the organization should any accident occur during the course of the race.

    1.10

    The organization agrees to meet an obligation concerning the measures to be taken to ensure safety as much as possible and call attention to the impossibility of agreeing to an obligation concerning the result.

    1.11

    In case of Force Majeure, the race may be postponed or cancelled.

    1.12

    The competitors accept without restriction that the organization can use all images filmed throughout the race for the promotion of the event.

    1.13

    Rights to the concept, the regulations, the brand, and the video images and films of the “Carrera Habagat” are protected by Habagat Outdoor Equipment and Services, Inc.

    1.14

    The organization issues the accreditation required to cover the race to professional journalists.

  2. TEAMS
    2.1

    All competitors must be at least 18 years old or above.

    2.2

    A team of six registers with the organization. A team is comprised of four people, one of which should be from the opposite sex and two support crew of any gender.

    2.3

    All teams must provide for their own uniforms.

    2.4

    Competitors must constantly wear their uniforms, complete with their sponsors’ and organization marking for the duration of the race.

    2.5

    All teams will be given official equipment which must be used in lieu of their personal gear.

    2.6

    Any individual, from 18 years above are allowed to participate in any team except residents/locals of the area where the race is held and regular personnel of Habagat and its affiliate companies.

    2.7

    Team managers and supporters, in order to have access to the race, must register with the organization for a fee of P 500.00. Access is only at the Start & Finish Lines, Logistics Points and Participation during the awards night.

    2.8

    Violation of any of these rules will be grounds for disqualification.

    1. RACE TEAM
      3.1

      The race team is composed of four persons, one of which should be from the opposite sex.

      3.2

      All race teams must include a member experienced in land navigation (Map and Compass Work)

      3.3

      All competitors commit themselves to obtaining the specific qualifications required by the race.

    2. SUPPORT CREW
      3.1

      The support crew is composed of two persons from any gender.

      3.2

      At least one support crew member must know how to drive a motorcycle or a 4-wheeled vehicle with a valid driver’s license and a registered vehicle.

      3.3

      Assistance from the support crew is only authorized at designated Logistics Points (LP).

      3.4

      Any person who has not been accredited by the organization cannot participate in the team logistics, or enter a logistical vehicle or the assistance-organization area.

      3.5

      Teams will bring or rent their own support vehicle. Support crews will do their own driving – no local drivers are allowed to participate.

      3.6

      Any assistance by unaccredited persons will be viewed as outside support and will be grounds for disqualification.

      3.7

      Violation of any of these rules will be grounds for disqualification.

    3. SAFETY EQUIPMENT
      4.1

      Each team member must have the following equipment in good working order at all times:

      • Head lamp or waterproof flashlight
      • Pocket knife
      • Whistle
      4.2

      Compulsory team equipment:

      2. Compulsory team equipment:
        • Compass
        • First Aid Kit
        • Four (4) mountain bikes
        • Four (4) bike helmets
        • Four (4) personal flotation devices
        • Two (2) helmets for Support Crew (if using a motorcycle)
      3. Technical Equipment:
        • Four (4) harnesses
        • Descending device
        • Cows tail/ lanyard
        • Two (2) locking carabiners
        • Two (2) non-locking carabiners
        • 2-meters 6-8mm short rope rated
  3. Other Race Equipment
    5.1

    The organization will provide canoes/kayaks for the competitors. Other equipment needed for each of the different disciplines will be provided for by the teams at the start of the race and must be in compliance with the specifications indicated by the organization.

    5.2

    The organization reserves the right to disapprove and/or withhold any equipment that could be detrimental to the safety of the competitor or provide unfair advantage to the team.

    5.3

    There will be a mandatory equipment check before the start of the race, as well as random equipment checks along the course of the race.

    5.4

    The organization reserves the right to randomly check any teams at any time and section of the race.

    5.5

    The organization will provide a baggage check-in for excess gear, but will only be accessed by the teams after the race.

    5.6

    Violation of any of these rules will be grounds for disqualification.

  4. Prohibited Equipment
    6.1

    Global Positioning System (GPS) devices

    6.2

    Weapons and the like

    6.3

    Banned substances – natural or synthetic

    6.4

    Any other communication device aside from the specified equipment to be used ONLY for emergency cases

    6.5

    Motorized equipment aside from the support crew vehicle

    6.6

    Any electronic device that can be used for navigation and communication

    6.7

    Violation of any of these rules will be grounds for disqualification.

  5. Uniforms
    7.1

    Team uniforms with organization marking must be worn at all times for the entire duration of the race.

    7.2

    Two (2) sets of organization patches are provided for, should the team decide to change uniforms during the race.
